For total beginners, this fun-filled 6-week course in Jitterbug, Charleston, East Coast, Jumpswing & Jazz, starts from scratch. Our top-notch male-female teaching team helps you to see and hear both sides of the story! Our goal is for you to feel good dancing with anyone, on the Ithaca scene, or anywhere! Ithaca has at least two live band weekly swing events - see our popular regional dance calendar.
On the very first day of class, you will learn a fun, energetic, complete beginner-level choreography to the classic uptempo song Rockin Robin, and leave the class with an appetite for more! Our very popular swing dance series is perfect for beginners, offering special goodies to those ready for fancier fare.
Great music! Kurt DJ'd the radio program "Saturday Swing" on WVBR for 12 years. You will be dancing to plenty of great music 1930s-2014: Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Elvis Presley, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Brian Setzer and more.
Ladies, its not just about getting schleped all over the floor by guys: teaching partner Bonnie Margolis, with an acrobatics background, has great style and attitude - a popular role model!
Every class is fun, with great music, a great dance floor, and individualized help. Our teaching methods are among the most effective and stress-free that you will find. AND we are specialists in teaching you how to turn and spin comfortably.
PLUS: Advanced teaching techniques garnered from years of workshops, classes, and private lessons with the country's top pros, hard core club dancing, competing, and creative teaching exploration! Your lead instructor Kurt, currently teaching dance classes at Ithaca College, is one of the very few in a wide NY radius actually certified to teach: Masters Degree, Music Education (Ithaca College '82). He founded Cornell's Swing Dance Program, and taught it for 12 years. He is the founding advisor for three college swing dance clubs.     No partner needed - meet people. Kind, compassionate, patient instruction for all levels of ability - Starting at ZERO! You will get a good taste of the main classic ballroom dances in six weeks, and even some comfortable competancy on the dance floor!
Waltz was the first modern ballroom dance, and the graceful model for many dances that followed: foxtrot, rumba, even swing and salsa. Foxtrot was the most popular dance in the ballroom during the swing era, a graceful way to dance to the supremely popular swing music of the time. Ballroom Tango has become a favorite expressive couples dance, and is a consistent all-time favorite in our college ballroom classes.
